1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot automatic vacuum and mop/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
The automatic vacuum and mop robot cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum best vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
