The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them when necessary. Certain models also automatically empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This reduces the amount fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot automatic vacuum and mop/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the auto vacuum and mop works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
