Thieves steal, for different reasons, and are very good at it.

Not all thieves rob for personal gain: many are vigilantes, robbing sleazy nobles to help the poor.

Since the strength based potential of this character is so limited, it is based to stick to a purely wisdom based character and forget about the strength based stat altogether.

Others rarely use their thieving skills and are basically scouts, creeping ahead to survey enemies.

Of all the CofW skills available to base classes, the wisdom damage potential of the Mage is the highest, culminating in the "Mage Imperium" which is 100% wisdom based.

Of course most thieves rob for their own benefit, and thus it is usually good to keep an eye on all Thieves in your party, even if they have given their word they will not rob you.

The easiest way I know of to explain the classes in an effective and useful way is to split the 5 classes up into three groups;

Those more geared towards wisdom damage, those for strength damage, and theft.

Divided in this way, the 5 base classes form a sort of scale presented as such:

Mage

Archer

Thief

Acolyte

Swordsman

The first grouping as I mentioned is classes which are more apt towards being wisdom based classes. Both classes have strength based moves, but they do very limited damage in comparison to the strength based moves of the other classes.

[edit] Mage

This is one of the best base classes if built right, but also one of the hardest to start with.

Since the strength based potential of this character is so limited, it is based to stick to a purely wisdom based character and forget about the strength based stat altogether.

Of all the CofW skills available to base classes, the wisdom damage potential of the Mage is the highest, culminating in the "Mage Imperium" which is 100% wisdom based.

Mage also has the useful beginner skill of Focus Magic, which essential adds large amounts of damage to the wisdom based skills, depending on the amount of the users wisdom.

While wisdom damage is harder to use and takes more work then strength based damage when fighting players with high HP, it does break through a players defense, and the really low strength combined with this ability makes it very useful against all stat-based NPC.

Arguably Ideal Stat Ratio:

Agility:Strength:Defense:Wisdom = 4:0:2:3

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW:

Focus Magic - 70, 50, 0, 0, 0

Imperium - 30, 50, 100, 100, 100

[edit] Archer

Like the Mage, the Archer is very limited in its ability to use its strength based skills to much effect, but does have the move Oblivion Shot which is almost as good as the Mage Imperium in terms of wisdom damage.

Unlike the Mage however, the Archer's strength based skills are slightly better, so an Archer can still get away with training strength a little bit until they can get Oblivion shot and switch to wisdom training.

Arguably Ideal Stat Ratio:

Agility:Strength:Defense:Wisdom = 4:1:2:2

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW:

Oblivion Shot - 100, 80, 50, 0, 0

Flaming Arrow - 0, 20, 50, 100, 100

The second grouping I mentioned is the theft based class.

[edit] Thief

This class is obviously Thieves and as such is geared towards stealing more then damage dealing.

While the skills are mostly strength based, and to some degree agility based, they are not high damaging moves compared to those classed in the strength grouping.

Arguably Ideal Stat Ratio:

Agility:Strength:Defense:Wisdom = 4:2:2:X

X = If using Pickpocket and Mug then no need to be higher then 200 at max. If using Dark Mug then will need more.

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW:

Pickpocket - 100, 0, 0, 0, 0

Shadow Slash - 0, 100, 100, 100, 100

The third grouping is strength based classes. these are the two classes that while they may have some wisdom damage potential, they are far more geared towards strength based damage and have the most powerful CofW skills in terms of strength damage.

[edit] Acolyte

This is one of the most adaptable class and can really be played as wisdom or strength based character.

However, this class is in the strength based grouping due to having the skill Unleash Hell at its beck and call.

This move is the most powerfull of all strength based CofW skills.

Acolyte also has access to Pray to the Gods which has the potential to cause instant kills under the right circumstances, making it very useful for statbased monsters in the hands of a fair number of players.

Due to being able to pull off both wisdom and strength based characters, this is arguably the best beginning class.

Arguably Ideal Stat Ratio:

Agility:Strength:Defense:Wisdom = 4:3:2:X

X=Optimum need for performing skills, again around 200 Max should be sufficient

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW:

Unleash Hell - 100, 100, 100, 100, 70

Pray to the Gods - 0, 0, 0, 0, 30

The Acolyte's wisdom capabilities cumulate again in Imperium as the Acolyte Imperium is 70% wisdom based and again can be comboed with Pray to the Gods.

Arguably Ideal Stat Ratio:

Agility:Strength:Defense:Wisdom = 4:1:2:3

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW:

Imperium - 100, 100, 100, 100, 70

Pray to the Gods - 0, 0, 0, 0, 30

[edit] Swordsman

This class is at the top of the strength based classes for a number of reasons.

First and foremost being that all skills are strength based.

Second is that this class offers CofW skills that raise both strength (Flex) and defense (Shield).

And finally, while not as strong as Unleash Hell, the Swordsman's Aikibatto Master Slash is the second strongest strength based CofW skill with the added bonus of being 100% accurate (compared to Unleash Hell at 60% accurate).

Arguably Ideal Stat Ratio:

Agility:Strength:Defense:Wisdom = 4:3:2:X

X=Optimum need for performing skills, again around 200 Max should be sufficient

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW:

Flex or Shield - 70, 50, 0, 0, 0

Aikibatto Master Slash - 30, 50, 100, 100, 100

[edit] Mixed Classes

However, aside from the 5 base classes, 2 types of "Mixed Classes" have appeared. This can happen after changing your class.

The first is the "Wisdom Based Mixed Class".

These characters usually combine the best moves from the Wisdom fueled classes like Mage Imperium and Focus Magic, with Net from Thieves and/or Pray to the Gods from Acolytes.

The purpose is to create the best wisdom damage combos one can from the CofW skills, although many players that fall into this class eventually move up to stronger wisdom based attack skills like Black Magic, Triangulum, etc.

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW: **

The second is the "Strength Based Mixed Class".

Much like the first mixed classes, these are players that changed classes to collect the best CofW skills to try and build the optimal strength based character.

Combos such as Unleash Hell and Pray to the Gods from Acolytes with Net from Thieves.

It is also common for this class to follow a Thief style using Pickpocket or the like with the more powerful attack skills of other classes like Unleash Hell or Aikibatto Master Slash.

Again, players of this class eventually move onto strong skills then CofW of which there is an abundance.

Arguably Ideal Skill Combo from CofW: **

* As Mixed Class players tend to be more advanced players, their stat distribution is more customized to the player's preferences in terms of dominant stats.

** As Mixed Class players tend to be more advanced players, their skill set-ups are more customized to the player's preferences in terms of player style and the abundance of additional skills beyond what the CofW offers.
